Focus: Lineage, Authority, and Transmission
This section focuses on the intellectual, institutional, and spiritual lineages through which Confucian, Daoist, and Buddhist traditions have been transmitted, interpreted, and renewed. We invite studies that trace how knowledge, authority, and legitimacy are constructed, inherited, and contested across generations and regional contexts.
The metaphor of “passing the lamp” (傳燈) evokes not only the transmission of insight, but also the vigilant stewardship of tradition. In East Asia, lineages—scholarly, ritual, or monastic—have served as critical frameworks for safeguarding textual integrity, moral cultivation, ritual accuracy, and institutional continuity. These systems often intersect with political authority, social organization, and localized educational modes.
We welcome contributions addressing:
- ▪ Monastic, ritual, or scholastic lineages within the Three Teachings
- ▪ Biographical narratives, genealogies (譜系), transmission records (傳法帖), and lineage charts
- ▪ Doctrinal instruction and its relationship with institutional power
- ▪ Succession politics, definitions of orthodoxy, and contestations of heresy
- ▪ Case studies on regional or transregional transmission networks
- ▪ The formation of intellectual and spiritual “schools” (學派、宗派)
- ▪ Textual strategies used to assert or dispute lineage legitimacy
Contributions may include annotated translations, critical notes, or analytical essays. We particularly welcome studies that combine philological rigor with broader reflections on how the Three Teachings preserve and reimagine their intellectual legacies.
法脈、權威與傳承
本專欄聚焦於儒、道、佛三教中之思想、制度與修行傳承,邀請論文探討知識、權威與正統性如何於歷代與地域脈絡中被建構、繼承與質疑。
「傳燈」不僅象徵智慧的傳授,也指對傳統的慎重護持。在東亞文化中,無論是學術傳承、宗教修行或儀式系統,法脈皆為維繫經典精確性、道德修養、儀式規範與制度延續之核心機制,亦常與政治權力、社會組織與地方學風交織互動。
徵稿範疇包括但不限於:
