Author Guidelines

 
Three Teachings Studies: Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism

We welcome submissions that offer original, well-argued contributions to the study of Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism, including their interactions and broader cultural significance.

Before submitting:

  • Ensure your title is clear and your abstract (150–250 words) summarizes the core argument.
  • Your manuscript should be logically structured and supported by appropriate sources.
  • Footnotes (not endnotes) and a complete bibliography are required.
  • For non-English manuscripts, an English title and abstract must be included.
  • Please refer to our Style Sheet and Submission Guidelines before uploading.

All submissions should be in Word (.doc or .docx) format.

Only original, unpublished work not under review elsewhere will be considered.

All submissions must meet the following requirements:

  • [✓] The manuscript is original, has not been published, and is not under review elsewhere.
  • [✓] An abstract (150–250 words) and 5–7 keywords are included.
  • [✓] All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • [✓] The file is in Word (.doc or .docx) format, with footnotes and full bibliography.
  • [✓] Non-English manuscripts include an English title and abstract.
  • [✓] The author agrees to the journal’s Ethics Policy and Open Access Policy.
 

Articles/論文

Original research articles on Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism, or their intersections. Submissions must demonstrate scholarly rigor, engagement with sources, and relevance to the field.

Review Articles/綜述

In-depth scholarly surveys of research trends, historiography, or comparative issues in Three Teachings studies. Suitable for specialists and advanced readers.

Book Reviews/書評

Critical reviews of recent publications relevant to Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism, or East Asian philosophy and religion. Not peer-reviewed.

Translation and Annotation/翻譯與註釋

Scholarly translations of classical or rare texts, accompanied by annotations and critical apparatus. Submissions should prioritize textual accuracy and context.

Forum/論壇

Short, focused contributions on current debates, conceptual questions, or reflections relevant to the field. May include invited commentaries or thematic clusters.

Documents and Textual Notes/文獻與文本札記

Presentation and analysis of primary sources, manuscript fragments, epigraphic evidence, or philological observations relevant to Three Teachings traditions.

Lectures/講演

Revised and edited versions of public lectures or keynote presentations by invited scholars. May offer synthetic or programmatic views.

Rituals and Transmission|儀式與傳承

Studies of rituals, ceremonies, transmission lineages, and embodied practice in Confucian, Daoist, and Buddhist contexts. Encourages analysis of liturgical texts, performative acts, and institutional traditions.

Sounding the Teachings|聲音與三教

Contributions exploring sonic culture in the Three Teachings: chanting, ritual music, soundscapes, voice, acoustics, and philosophical treatments of sound. Interdisciplinary work encouraged.

Everyday Life and Practice|日用與實踐

Articles focused on the lived expression of Three Teachings in daily life, ethics, health practices, social behavior, or material culture. Emphasizes practice-based inquiry.

Lineage, Transmission & Renewal|傳燈與法脈

Research on intellectual, monastic, ritual, or scholastic transmission across time and space. Includes annotated translations, lineage charts, or documentary studies.

Interaction & Exchange|交流與互動

Case studies or theoretical work on the interaction, negotiation, and fusion of the Three Teachings in specific regions, historical moments, or institutional contexts.
