The Digital Education & Educational Technology section of IRELS publishes research that investigates the design, implementation, and impact of digital technologies on teaching, learning, and educational systems.

This section focuses on analytically rigorous and empirically grounded studies that examine how digital tools, platforms, and learning environments influence educational processes and outcomes. Contributions are expected to be informed by relevant theoretical frameworks and to demonstrate methodological transparency.

Scope of the Section

The section welcomes research on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Online & Blended Learning: Design and efficacy of virtual learning environments.
  • EdTech Design & Evaluation: Methodologies for assessing educational technology.
  • Platforms & Systems: Learning management systems (LMS) and digital ecosystems.
  • AI & Analytics: Artificial intelligence, learning analytics, and data-informed education.
  • Digital Assessment: E-assessment strategies and feedback systems.
  • Ethics & Equity: Accessibility, digital divide, and ethical issues in digital education.

Types of Contributions

  • Empirical studies using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods
  • Design-based research and technology-focused case studies with analytical depth
  • Systematic reviews and theoretical analyses related to digital education

Please note: Manuscripts that primarily describe the use of digital tools without theoretical grounding or empirical analysis are not considered for this section.
