Abstract
English
This long poem seeks to explore the lingering echoes between music, history, and personal emotion. Its opening adapts Wang Shizhen’s line “Five hundred years of desolation in the human world” from Gao You Yu Bo, highlighting the contrast between dynastic decline and the enduring presence of rivers and mountains. At the same time, it incorporates the delicate imagery characteristic of Li Qingzhao’s lyrics—shadows of flowers, flickering lamps, gauze windows, the cries of wild geese, and traces of wine—blending historical gravitas with lyrical subtlety. Structured in ten sections, the poem traces the circulation of music through the qin, flute, wind, rain, and natural sound: as the echo of dynasties, the voice of the self, the bridge across times, and the bond between cultures. It suggests that music, like poetry, transcends the impermanence of human life and remains an eternal lingering sound shared with the enduring rivers and mountains.
