What does it mean to listen across borders?
Resonance: Journal of Global Music Studies was founded in response to that question—not to offer a final answer, but to open a space for conversation. In a world shaped by movement, entanglement, and the constant circulation of sound, music demands new forms of listening, writing, and remembering.
This journal is for those who believe music is never just music. It is method and metaphor, reflection and resistance. It reveals how histories are made audible, how identities are performed, and how meaning travels across languages, bodies, and landscapes. We embrace multilingual publication not in spite of complexity, but because of it. English is our primary language, but not our only one—we believe resonance deepens when voices multiply.
In these pages, you will encounter field notes and essays, archival explorations, artist dialogues, and critical reflections. Some voices may not always harmonize, but they reverberate—across time, across traditions, across the global soundscape.
Welcome to Resonance: Journal of Global Music Studies.
