Translations & Source Texts

This section features critical translations and annotated presentations of historical, theoretical, or otherwise significant texts related to music and sound. It also includes reflections on the translation process itself as an act of interpretation and cultural mediation.

Scope of Work

Translations of foundational or overlooked treatises, essays, or correspondence
Annotated editions of primary texts (manuscripts, archival documents, libretti)
Multilingual texts reflecting diverse music cultures
Commentary contextualizing intellectual, historical, or political significance
Reflections on the ethics and methods of translating musical ideas

Submission Requirements

Preferred Format: Bilingual
 
 
Side-by-Side presentation is highly encouraged.
Must include Introductory Essay or Critical Commentary.
Length 2k–8k words (flexible)
Source Language All Accepted *English translation required

What We Look For

  • Texts enriching access to non-Western or untranslated musical thought
  • Historically significant documents made newly relevant
  • Reflexive approaches considering the translator’s role
  • Submissions that challenge linguistic hierarchies
