Retraction Policy

Retraction Policy

Comparative Philosophy and Religious Traditions (CPRT) is committed to preserving the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of the scholarly record.

Retractions, corrections, and related notices are issued when necessary to ensure transparency and maintain trust in academic publishing.

1. Grounds for Retraction

An article may be retracted if:

  • There is clear evidence of fabrication or falsification of data or sources
  • Plagiarism or redundant publication is identified
  • Major errors invalidate the core findings or arguments
  • Ethical violations occurred during the research process
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest significantly affected the integrity of the work
  • The article was published as a result of compromised peer review

Retraction is reserved for serious breaches that fundamentally undermine the reliability of the publication.

2. Corrections (Errata)

If minor errors are identified that do not invalidate the central argument or findings, the journal may issue:

  • A Correction (Erratum)
  • An Author Correction

Corrections are linked to the original article and clearly indicate the changes made.

3. Expression of Concern

If substantial concerns arise but an investigation is ongoing or inconclusive, the journal may publish an Expression of Concern.

This notice:

  • Alerts readers to potential issues
  • Remains linked to the original article
  • Is updated once the investigation is concluded

4. Investigation Procedure

When potential misconduct is identified:

  1. The editorial office conducts a preliminary assessment.
  2. Authors are contacted and given an opportunity to respond.
  3. Where necessary, the journal may consult independent experts or the authors’ institutions.
  4. A final determination is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

All investigations are conducted fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with established publication ethics standards.

5. Retraction Notice

If retraction is warranted:

  • A formal retraction notice will be published.
  • The notice will clearly state the reason for retraction.
  • The retraction will be linked to the original article.
  • The original article will remain accessible but clearly marked as “Retracted”.

Retraction notices are issued to correct the scholarly record, not to punish authors.

6. Author-Initiated Retraction

Authors may request retraction if significant errors are discovered after publication. Such requests will be evaluated by the editorial team to determine the appropriate course of action.

7. Transparency and Permanence

All corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are permanently linked to the original article to ensure transparency. The journal does not remove published articles except in exceptional circumstances involving legal obligations.

8. Editorial Independence

Decisions regarding retractions or corrections are made independently of financial considerations and are based solely on scholarly integrity and ethical standards.
