Article Processing Charge (APC)

Computational Social Sciences Review (CSSR) applies an open-access publishing model to support transparent, inclusive, and globally accessible scholarship in computational social science. To maintain high-quality editorial and production standards, the journal operates under a moderate and author-friendly Article Processing Charge (APC) policy.

1. APC Amount

CSSR charges a modest and highly competitive APC for accepted manuscripts:

APC: USD 180

This APC supports the entire publication process, including editorial management, professional peer review, copyediting, typesetting, DOI registration, platform hosting, and long-term digital archiving.

2. Services Covered by the APC

The APC covers all scholarly publishing services required to produce, maintain, and preserve a high-quality open-access article:

  • Editorial assessment and manuscript management
  • Double-blind peer review coordination
  • Professional copyediting and layout design
  • DOI registration and metadata integration
  • Open-access hosting with long-term preservation
  • Website maintenance and platform development

3. No Additional or Hidden Fees

CSSR does not charge authors for any of the following:

  • No submission fee
  • No review fee
  • No page or word-count fees
  • No color figure charges
  • No supplementary material fees

4. Rationale for the APC

The APC supports the journal’s mission to:

  • Ensure global open-access availability without subscription barriers
  • Support early-career researchers with affordable publication costs
  • Promote rigorous, computationally informed social science
  • Maintain high publication quality while keeping APCs accessible

5. Waivers and Reductions

CSSR offers partial waivers or discounts for authors who demonstrate financial need, including:

  • Authors from low-income countries
  • Graduate students or early-career researchers
  • Invited or commissioned papers
  • Exceptional manuscripts with high scholarly impact

Waiver requests can be submitted after acceptance and will be assessed fairly.

6. Future APC Adjustments

APC levels may be adjusted in future years to reflect operational costs, infrastructure improvements, and technological updates. Any changes will be:

  • Publicly announced on the journal website
  • Implemented transparently and ethically
  • Communicated in advance to authors

7. Commitment to Open Access

CSSR remains committed to providing free and unrestricted access to all published articles. Open-access availability enables wider dissemination, greater visibility, and stronger global scholarly impact.
